But unfortunately they have a tremendous weakness to people setting their ***stone*** temple on fire.Joking aside, the mixture of clunky platformer style combat combined with dragging and dropping various miscellanea seems a complete missmatch, and didn't do anything for me. There are ways this could have been executed by making the interaction with the miscellanea feel more dynamic and fluid. Perhaps by making it so that the dragging and dropping action was a gesture that merely beckoned the energies; letting them move on their own as if actually natural. As it stands, ineracting with nature magic felt like picking up a windows file and dropping it in the windows recycle bin. It takes something supposedly magical and makes it mundane.Even if the magic mechanics had been executed differently, combat would also have needed to have been done differently as well. There's nothing quite like combat based on slow horizontal jabbing of a spear, and having flappy birds bobbing up and down in the vertical direction to emphasize just how slow, clunky and limiting the combat is. There's something off-putting about the combat mechanics and a rigidity of the animations. Perhaps later powers are aquired that change the combat in some amazing way, but I'll never know because I was turned off by just how uninspired the game was with its bread and butter mechanics. There is of course the possibility that I've been spoiled by modern titles. That I'm being too harsh and the game is merely a product of its time. I leave that for the reader to decide. But summing up my own feelings; Aztaka is definitely an eyecatching title. It looked amazing when it was originally released and it still looks good to this day. Sadly its gorgious graphics, are entirely wasted on its clunkily executed mechanics.. This game is an aneurysm simulator. Combat is super clunky. The way you jump doesn't feel natural. You stop midair, it's difficult to hit enemies because they keep "slightly" moving away from you. This happens constantly as you progress through the game. The terrain is uneven, yet you are expected to jump at some enemies and crouch when attacking certain other enemies. This normally works in games when the floor and crouching have always the same measurements and ratios. What happens in Aztaka is that when you approach enemies at an angle they can hit you and you can't hit them at all. In narrow spaces the enemies come at you through the walls... your character keeps bumping into walls, gets stuck for a millisecond, gets hit by enemies etc. You kill enemies, and they just respawn 10 seconds later. This is fine in the early game but gets troublesome as you explore narrow passages later on. Aztaka is not a metroidvania. It's more like a 2D sidescroller RPG. The skills you unlock are wholly unsatisfying; there is nothing unique or interesting about them. Everything about the movement and combat screams "indie" at you. I mean that in the most negative sense. There's no map. The jungle areas got pretty confusing. There is no controller support. A platformer without controller support. Aztaka gets extra points for an interesting setting. 3/10 Terrible, avoid.. High resolution SNES-era inspired sidescrolling Action RPG/Platformer. Acquire artifacts that bestow unique capabilities, combat skills and spells. Features a completely original story based on the real-world legends of the Aztec people. Challenging, intriguing, and has some very impressive hand drawn parallax style backgrounds with pre-rendered characters sprites akin to Donkey Kong Country. Check it out!. Overall, this is a decent indie project. Great visuals, interesting mix of rpg, platformer, puzzle and combat. Aztec mythology is a fine add. But, at the same time, it has some confusing technical issues and it is also a forgettable experience.. I would first like to say this game was amazing I had alot of fun with it. I beat the game to almost the end where I ran into a major glitch in which I could not recieve the last phonogram like needed. I beat the final boss picked up the second to last phonogram and it glitched out and permantly says I only got 5. I think the issue stemmed from the butterflies during the final boss glitched and continously come out to no end. The music is great the platforming is challenging. Heck even the combat is pretty difficult and it makes for a great game and adventure but until this glitch is fixed or patched the score will be a 4/10 just because I can't beat the game that I beat. Once it gets patched the game is great fun and well worth the money.. I enjoyed it.. Interesting game. Very fluid control and combat. Encounted an error 98% of the way through, too long to restart, but I assume the story wrapped up nicely. Nonetheless enjoyed the journey.. Amazing Side-scrolling-action-RPG!I never thought could exist a game like this.Great art and music!
